BEC Format

BEC Format

The BEC section is comprised of approximately 85 percent multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and 15 percent written communication, which is answered in the form of a short passage, letter or memo. All other sections are about 60 percent multiple-choice and 40 percent task-based simulation questions (TBS). TBS questions are based on case studies. MCQs come in 3 blocks called "testlets" and vary in difficulty from medium to difficult. All candidates receive the medium questions first and, if answered correctly, the subsequent questions will increase in difficulty. If not answered correctly, the following question will be another in the medium difficulty category until one is answered correctly, allowing the candidate to advance in difficulty level. This is relevant in terms of the scoring process, as difficult questions earn more points than medium-level questions.
