children marriage

children marriage

It is probably wrong to think of parents as forcing their children into specific marriages. Indeed, in the case of both the Hebrews and the Romans, mutual consent of the participants was supposedly required. Since parents loved their children, it is unlikely that a father would force his son or daughter into unwelcome matrimony. On the other hand, it is just as unlikely that a well-bred boy or girl would object to a parentally arranged marriage. Young people did not marry for romantic love, for companionship, or for personality developmoit. Marriages were based largely on economic considerations. Most men were farmers who needed a wife to manage the household and children to help on the farm.
